I want to start with some photos of our Black Labrador. I know you’re thinking, ‘that’s just a way of capturing my attention.’ You’re probably right! She’s cute, isn’t she? But there’s also another reason. Before I get to that, here are some photos.
The first, is Bella on the beach.

She’s so beautiful, isn’t she?
The second is Bella leaning on her Christmas present. She gets the same present every year. This time, it was a Norwich City one; Cherith and I are Canaries fans. Bella looks a bit put out about that!

These are just a couple of my favourites.
Why am I showing you these pictures? Because last year (2022), Cherith and I set up Bella Books, an imprint (or pawprint) of our business dedicated to helping writers called BookLab.
Bella Books is dedicated to making my books (mostly my fiction books) available to my readers. I’ll go over some of the commercial and literary reasons why we did this in future blogs. But for now, let me just say that Cherith and I wanted to create something that would celebrate a dog who has been, and continues to be, our most loyal and loving friend.
Many of us write and publish books because we want to leave a legacy of our thoughts and dreams. We want something of us to survive these fleeting three score years and ten.
Cherith and I also want to celebrate Bella, our Black Labrador. Every time we publish one of my new books, her name is on the cover, not just mine. We are on it and in it together.
Bella gets to be remembered forever too.
For us, publishing a book is a Labrador legacy.
